Morgridge Center Theme Months

Does your organization want to:

  • Hear about what other organizations are doing on campus?
  • Attract more students to your meetings and events?
  • Learn more about the Madison community?
  • Become part of a sustained effort to address issues of poverty and justice?
  • Gain more funding for your initiative?

The theme months are an opportunity for the Morgridge Center to highlight specific social issues through events and information distribution. We hope for this to serve as a springboard for student organizations to collaborate more with one another and with community organizations to create successful events and service projects.

Each month, we will highlight events that are already taking place on campus, and hold other awareness and service events. Our goals are to enage students in the community, and strengthen your efforts to address the causes you care about!

Interested in participating? Come to our Brown Bag Lunch planning sessions to meet other student leaders who care about the same issues as you! The Brown Bag lunches are not only a valuable opportunity to collaborate on programs that help our community, but will also provide your organization resources and publicity.

Change, Inc

Interested in furthering your collaboration with other student organizations on campus?

Working together has much higher potential for creating an impact than working alone.

Bridge the communication gap on campus and work together to meet the needs of the Madison community by getting involved in Change, Inc.  Change, Inc. is a student board on campus that seeks to strategically connect UW student service organizations and develop emerging student leaders in the field of service.  By uniting service organizations together to create one student service board, Change, Inc. hopes to improve communication between campus service organizations and be a resource to campus organizations interested in networking and marketing opportunities for their events.  Attend their meetings to learn what other organizations are planning, coordinate your efforts, and gain skills that will make your organization stronger.

Establishing Community Partnerships

Working with community organizations could help you further understand issues your organization is ineterested in, plan events, and gain valuable skills for making your organization stronger. Community agencies are usually eager to start these relationships because they can educate about their mission and gain volunteers.

Attending our Theme Month Brown Bag Lunches are an effective way to learn about potential community partners. If your organization would like further assistance, please contact our Campus Liaison, Katy Resop at morgridge@union.wisc.edu

Advertising Your Events

The Morgridge Center can advertise your events on the Events Page of our website, through our Theme Month marketing efforts, and also via our Morgridge Mail E-Newsletter, a weekly email that goes to 1,000+ students.

If you have an event coming up that you would like to advertise, please send us the information for it before the 1st of the month that it is scheduled (for example, if it is scheduled for February 15th, we need the information by January 31st). All event information can be emailed to Katy Resop, our Campus Liaison at morgridge@union.wisc.edu

Funding Your Events
There are many ways student organizations may receive additional funding for their events. Here are two of them:

*Collaborating on a project or program with other student organizations?  University Health Services allocates grants between $50-$500 to student groups who are working in partnership with each other.  For more information and upcoming deadlines, go to http://www.uhs.wisc.edu/home.jsp?cat_id=110.

*The Morgridge Center for Public Servie awards grants up to $200 for service projects that directly address the needs of the Madison community. These funds should be used to offset expenses related to implementing and promoting your service project. For more information, visit http://www.morgridge.wisc.edu/students/grants.html
