Be sure you're ready to take full advantage of the Public Service Fair.
To benefit from your time at the Public Service Fair start thinking ahead about what you want from your service, internship, or career experience, consider the following:
Your interests
What social issues are you passionate about?
What groups of people would you like to serve?
Types of Service
There are all types of volunteering opportunities from direct hands-on service, behind the scenes operational support, to political advocacy campaigns.
Major/Career Goals
Volunteering is a great way to gain experience toward your major or career!
Find an agency that is in a similar field or chose a volunteer position that will help build your related skills!
Time Commitment
How much time are you willing to volunteer?
Interested in volunteering as needed, one-time, weekly, a semester, or a whole year?
Ask the agency what their needs and requirements are for volunteers!
Schedule
Ask the agency when they need volunteers. Some agencies only need volunteers during the day or at night, while others need volunteers only during the week and others on the weekends.
What is your availability? What is right for you?
Transportation
Transportation can be challenging since non-profit agencies are located all over the Madison community.
Ask where the agency is located.
Ask if they are in walking distance from campus, on a bus line, offer parking, of if they participate in the Morgridge Center's free taxi program.
