10,000 Hours Show
Community Splash is an annual event with a twofold mission: to introduce incoming new students to volunteering and service-learning opportunities at UW–Madison and to familiarize participants with some of the local agencies that rely on the continued dedication and commitment of the university community.
Many of our incoming students were actively engaged in volunteer service during their high school careers and are looking for a way to continue in college. Community Splash provides students with an opportunity to make these connections and form lasting friendships with like-minded volunteers.
Students have worked to address these issue areas at past Community Splash days of service:
Homelessness: Habitat for Humanity, Porchlight
Hunger: 2nd Harvest food Pantry, River Food Pantry
Youth: Boys and Girls Club, Bernie's Place, East Madison Community Center
Education: Atwood Community Center, YWCA
Health: UW-Hospital, Ronald McDonald House
Environment: UW Lake-shore Preserve, Madison Parks, UW-Arboretum
Elderly: Meriter Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital, Madison Senior Center
Miscellaneous: Humane Society
